Chief of Humanitarian Response
Mrs. Ugochi (Ugo) Daniels has been the Chief of the Humanitarian and Fragile Contexts Branch in the Programme Division of UNFPA since 2013. Ugo joined UNFPA in 2002 as the Deputy Program Manager of the African Youth Alliance. In 2007, Mrs. Ugo became the Deputy Representative in Nepal where she launched an innovative partnership with WFP for joint implementation of humanitarian response activities. In 2010, Ugo was appointed Representative in the Philippines where she helped to ensure that partnership with humanitarian agencies was at the heart of UNFPA’s response to 3 natural disasters. Under her leadership, the Philippines Country Office was recognized as a leading example in the UN on Delivering as One in Emergencies. In 2012, she served as the Resident Coordinator and Acting Humanitarian Coordinator of the Philippines where she facilitated a partnership with the Women’s Refugee Commission and WFP that helped to integrate SRH into Disaster Risk Reduction plans at the community level. Prior to joining UNFPA, Mrs. Ugo worked with USAID’s Nigeria Office between 1999 and 2002, serving both in the Office of Transition Initiatives and later as a Monitoring, Evaluation and Information Specialist. She focused on institutional strengthening, networks and partnerships, women’s access to health services, and women’s participation in political processes.
